Harry Potter Director Almost Did "Twilight!"

File this under "What if..." Or, actually, file it under "WTF!!!"

Original Harry Potter director Chris Columbus (no relation to the explorer dude) recently confessed that he almost took on Twilight when it was in its early stages.

"I guess I did read a script early on," says Chris. "But I was doing something else." (He's vague on that point, but CC did direct the upcoming teen comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper).

Of course, Catherine Hardwicke was signed and did a great job. And Chris says he has no regrets. But we couldn't help wondering what Twilight might have been like if he got the job:

* Edward with round, geeky glasses
* Vampire baseball replaced by Quidditch
* Residents of Forks suddenly have British accents
* James has a new BFF: Voldemort
* Say it out loud: "Wizard!"
