New Moon Soundtrack Review: 5 4TNZeez!

In case you've been living in a tree (like a Cullen), the New Moon Soundtrack just came out today in stores! (CLICK HERE to buy a copy.)

Yes, the songs have been available for your listening pleasure for days (thanks to MySpace). But now it's time to really absorb all the tune-age and give you our full review.

And, it was NOT a hard decision: We give it 5 out of 5 4TNZeez! (That's a unit of measurement for awesomeness on this website.)

The reason: While most movie soundtracks seem content to just put out the most random stuff unrelated to whatever's going on in the flick, the peeps from New Moon really took the time to select only the most appropriate tracks. We could totally see all this moody indie rock living on Bella's iPod!

Now it's not quite an album you want to put on to rock out with your socks out. It's more like the CD you need to listen to over-and-over while you pine for a certain heartthrobby vampire who left you in a dull, rainy town to go gallivanting in Italy (not to point fingers)!

Let's analyze the album song by song, shall we?

"Meet Me On the Equinox" (Death Cab For Cutie): You've probably memorized this by now, but it hasn't gotten old yet! Moody, pretty, cutie! (Sorry, we were just thinking of Jacob.)

"Friends" (Band of Skulls): Crunchy guitars and a cool hook totally makes this under-the-radar selection one of our faves. Plus, does it get any more Twilight-appropriate than a band called Band of Skulls?

"Hearing Damage" (Thom Yorke): Haunting, solemn and spacey, we think Radiohead's Thom must be a Cullen brother from another mother!

"Possibility" (Lykke Li): Gentle — and slightly spooky — piano ballad makes the ultimate vampire lullaby. If they actually slept, that is.

"A White Demon Love Song" (The Killers): Love this band! And though this song ain't there best, the slowly building ballad with cool Twi-friendly lyrics ("white demon where's your selfish kiss") will win you over with multiple listens.

"Satellite Heart" (Anya Marina): Hello? A soft, whispery ballad with lines like "what a pity, what a sham, what's the matter with your man?" Yeah, this is pretty much Bella's theme song.

"I Belong To You" (Muse): Ah, you remember these guys from the first soundtrack! They still rock (this is a remix). Kind of makes you want to go out and howl at the moon (not recommended if past curfew).

"Rosyln" (Bon Iver & St. Vincent): This tune's got a weird church choir feel that is a little sleepy, but slowly growing on us! Zzzzzz.

"Done All Wrong" (BRMC): Gotta love the old school, bluesy vibe by a formerly badass bands (the letters stand for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club). We think Rob should do a cover one day!

"Monsters" (Hurricane Bells): Title sounds scary, but it actually is a little brighter than the other tunes. Must be the theme song to Alice's yellow Porsche.

"The Violet Hour" (Sea Wolf): Another more uptempo tune than the rest of the album. But not out of place: It will still make you want to cry for hours.

"Shooting The Moon" (Ok Go): A folksy waltz? How did those Ok Go guys (the ones with the treadmill video) get in here past the Volturi bouncers? We're not complaining, though. It rocks out towards the end!

"Slow Life" (Grizzly Bear, Victoria Legrand): Finally! Back to sad, spare ballads. This one has a melodic chorus that may be stuck in your head for days! (But Grizzly Bear may not want to hang out around the vamps... they love fresh animal blood.)

"No Sound But the Wind" (Editors): Emo-rific! This band sounds like a goth version of Elton John. Not necessarily a bad thing. We can totes see this tune playing during an emotional Edward and Bella reunion! *Sigh*

"New Moon — The Meadow" (Alexandre Despiat): Mournful instrumental piano arrangement that closes out the soundtrack... and gives a hint as to what to expect in Eclipse. A little flowery, but so fragrant!

So that wraps up the whole album. Play it again, Edward!
